Blur wrinkled her nose. "I didn't even like my old name, anyway. Is it okay if we just use our real names on name tags and stuff? Since the government won't care, I mean?"

Sid chuckled. "We can call ya whatever ya want at the bar. This is just legal stuff."
He glanced disapprovingly at Sham. "It's gonna give me plenty a' trouble fakin' things fer you--but I'm sure that's what you want. I'll put up with it fer Proteus' sake."
Sham shrugged with moody indifference.

Shatter cleared her throat. "Uh . . . I might have kind of a problem filling out your forms, there." She shrugged. "I never signed up for a social security number -- you didn't need one until you were fifteen when I was a kid, and I was in Spooktown by then. Never needed one after that."
Padre frowned. "Any reason you wouldn't be able to get one?"
She shrugged. "I don't think so. I mean, there oughtta be a copy of my birth certificate or whatever on file somewhere. I was born in New York and everything -- heck, I can even tell ya what hospital if that'd help."

Sid frowned. "I don't wanna push ya inta bein' on record if ya don't feel comfortable with that. You okay with it? 'Cause, well... I can try ta work around it, if ya'd rather."

Shatter frowned thoughtfully and pushed her fingers through her stiff mane of white hair, then shrugged. "Nah . . . I guess it ain't that big of a deal. I wouldn't want to get the feds nosin' around the place on account of it, anyway, not with what all Tiernan runs out of that neighborhood. Kind of a stupid risk to take just to keep my name outta some government computer."

Sid grinned. "Thanks. I appreciate that."
"You're still not getting my name," Sham muttered.
"I didn't 'spect so." Sid sighed and glanced at Daws. "I hate ta put anybody else out, but--ya think your friend Jai could do anythin' ta help with this problem?" He tilted his head toward Sham.

Daws shrugged one shoulder. "I don't see why not. Jai's done stuff like that before -- should be pretty easy for him to cook up a fake identity that'll hold water."

"Yeah." Sid glanced at the silent, hulking Tusker. "Better rig somethin' fer this guy. too. I'm kinda gettin' the impression he's not the cooperative type, either."
Tusker grunted.

"Right." Daws frowned thoughtfully. "I'll have Jai put together some nondescript names, nothing that'd draw attention. Couple of photographs might be useful though, just to give the documents a little more weight."
"There's a polaroid camera in my office." Father Rick offered.

Sid looked sharply at Sham. "I guess you're gonna complain about that idea, too... Or have ya got a reason ya don't want anybody seein' yer face?"
"No," Sham grated. "Fine--take your snapshots. I don't like it, but I won't stop you."

"Better than getting investigated for tax fraud." Daws pointed out mildly.
Father Rick climbed to his feet and ducked into the church, returning a few minutes later with polaroid camera in hand. "Well," he said, holding it up, "I'd say 'smile' but I think we all know the chances of that one." He took a few quick snapshots of Sham and Tusker, then handed them to Daws, who spread them out on the church steps to develop.

Sid leaned over and looked at the pictures as they began to fade into view, and grinned darkly. "Well, looks about as good as any driver's-license pictures."
"Or mug shots," Vance added with a smirk.
Sham huffed slightly and unfolded his arms. "So when are we supposed to go to work?"
"Well, I wanna go over some things with you folks before ya start," Sid replied. "I'm lookin' fer a weekend reopening, but it prob'ly won't be this weekend--so maybe you guys can all meet me at the place sometime this comin' week."

Blaze grinned crookedly and shrugged. "Sure. Not like I got a whole lot else on my social agenda or anything."
Blur and Shatter both nodded in agreement.

"I got my own things to do Tuesday," Sham muttered.
Vance raised an eyebrow. "And you don't care to elaborate on what those 'things' are, I'm sure."
"No--I don't."
Sid waved a hand. "Okay, okay. Don't havta be Tuesday. But in case we need a coupla days ta sort anything out, we better make it Wednesday." He glanced at Sham. "Fine by you?"
"Fine," Sham muttered.

Father Rick grinned. "Well, now. That was relatively painless."
Daws chuckled. "Relatively."

"I'll havta have the fake papers fer Sham an' Tusker that day, too," Sid observed. "Ya think your pal can have 'em ready by then, Daws?"

"Oh, sure." Daws replied easily. "That'll be plenty of time for Jai to work up something good and convincing."

"Great." Sid nodded. "If ya call me when ya have 'em, I'll pick 'em up at your office, and I can have these two fill out everything they need then."
Vance looked at Thorn. "And as for you--you're going to have to do something about a babysitter."
Thorn blushed slightly and shrugged his shoulders. "Yeah, I know. I've been looking for somebody, but, uh... well, most of the people at Mister Latimore's apartments don't exactly seem like child-rearing material."
The Major chuckled. "Most of 'em are my people. So, yeah--I can see your point."

"Oh, come on. Who wouldn't want to hand their kid over to an ex-Army guerilla fighter?" Daws grinned.
"There's a few women in the parish who could lend a hand with that." Father Rick said. "I can give you some phone numbers."
"Um," Blur ducked her head. "I could help out, too, if you want. When we don't have the same shifts, I mean."

At that, Sid gave Daws and Vance a private grin, but he wiped off the expression quickly.
"Thanks, Blur--we'll have to see how the schedules turn out. But... yeah, I think the numbers to a few of those women would help," Thorn said to the Padre. "It wouldn't be much trouble to drop Dylan off somewhere in the neighborhood here. Besides, all the Spooks with families have been moved out of the Latimore building, so it'd be nice if Dylan had some other kids to play with."
