Miriam couldn't help smiling at that. "It would be wonderful to have some of my own clothes back," she admitted. She was, at the time, feeling rather silly in a very preteen-styled glittery T-shirt and blue jeans which belonged to Tara.
"And my journal," she added after a moment's thought. "It's in the drawer of my desk. I'd only just begun it after we first met."

Daws nodded. "Will-do. I'll get you some stuff together; make the place look like you snuck back in, packed up, and made trails for the hills." She scratched behind her ear and added "That'll keep Tiernan happy for a bit -- at least, I hope it will."

"Thanks," Miriam said demurely. The idea that she was being hunted was still difficult to think about.
"Do you need a ride back to your office or somewhere?" Alex asked Daws.

Daws hesitated. "Well, if you don't mind the allergens on your car seats," She grinned, "I wouldn't say no to the offer. The subway line back into the City runs slow this time of day."
Daws raised an eyebrow at Sid. "Look, if Tara wants to . . . talk. To someone who, y'know," She gestured vaguely at her own face, "Who shows . . . just give me a call."

"I appreciate that," Sid replied, shaking Daws' hand.
Alex, having taken his allergy medication before Daws arrived, merely grinned as he shrugged into his coat. "It's okay. I'm hoping enough contact with you will cure me." He waved a hand at Miriam and Sid. "I'll be back in a little bit. Anything you want me to pick up?"
Miriam and Sid both shook their heads. Alex shrugged, looked at Daws, and gestured toward the door. "After you."

Daws chuckled as they pulled out of the Rosenstein driveway and headed for the City. "Man, things around here just keep getting complicated, don't they?" She glanced sideways at Alex.
"How d'ya think she's going to do with it?", she asked, not bothering to elaborate. Having lived through the experience, both she and Malone knew precisely what was meant.

Alex sighed and shook his head. "I don't know. She's been through so much already. Having this happen on top of it..." It's not fair, he thought for the thousandth time, but did not say it aloud. It was obvious enough.
"At least looking out for her is giving Miriam something do do," he concluded lamely, fishing for a bright side to the situation.

"Yeah," Daws chuckled faintly, "I suppose that's one lucky break, anyway. Much longer holed up at Henry's, and she was gonna end up doing something rash."
She raised an eyebrow. "How's Consuela dealing with the 'houseguest'?" Her tone made it fairly clear that she didn't hold out much hope for a blossoming friendship between the maid and the fugitive Doctor.

"Oh, she's okay," Alex replied. "Actually, Consuela's dead loyal to Sid's family. Now that she understands Miriam could help nail the guy who killed Caroline, she's as ready to protect her as the rest of us."

Daws nodded. "Good enough for me. She doesn't have to like me, as long as she's not gonna put any of this -- any of us -- in danger."
She glanced out the window and added quietly "I'm not lettin' anyone else get hurt."
