"Yeah, we don't exactly need anything making our operations even harder to keep under wraps." Daws agreed. She frowned thoughtfully. "Once we get ahold of Voegel -- assuming we do -- where are we taking him?"

Vance grimaced. "I don't want him anywhere near Mutietown, that's for sure. I guess the safest thing would be to take him to that same motel we stashed Beaudry at."

Daws nodded. "I'll have Jai or Veeru handle the reservation. A place like that probably isn't apt to remember faces, but we'd better have someone else besides Shroud do the checking in, just in case."

"Okay." Vance shrugged. "I'll call Proteus myself. If he isn't still resting up from yesterday, he's probably hanging around his new pet norms at Langston's again."

Daws grinned crookedly. "Next thing we know he'll be asking if he can keep them."

"I'd say yes if he had someplace to put them--but that's a problem for later." Vance scowled. "For that matter, if we can track down that other actor and any others working at the clinic, we might have to get them out from under the axe too. Even if they're no use to us, we can't just sit back and let 'em be cut out as loose ends."

Daws nodded. "I'll get Jai on it. He's the one who helped me figure out there were actors working there in the first place, so maybe he'll have some leads on how to track down the ones we haven't got yet."

"Okay. If we can track 'em down... Well, better to shake up their lives completely than let 'em lose their lives, I guess." Vance sighed and shrugged, then looked momentarily thoughtful.
"Y'know, if Sid's feeling up to it, he might be helpful in handling these norms we've started collecting. They might be a little more comfortable with him than with us."

Daws nodded. "If nothing else, it'd take some of the work of looking after them off of our hands -- and that can only be a good thing."

"Okay. I'll talk to him myself--you've got enough people to get ahold of. I'll also let Cole know what we're thinking of doing. See if he can get us any slack in the hospital security." Vance stood up. "Later I'll probably be back at Langston's, checking on Nate and the party guests."

Daws nodded. "Sounds good. I'll get in touch the minute I know anything else of use, and we can make out a concrete game plan."

"Right." Vance turned to Handy, who had been perusing Daws' stack of battered mystery novels and trying not to look slightly bored. "C'mon, time to get busy again."
"Okay, Jerod." Handy shot Daws a longsuffering look as he followed his leader out the door.

Daws stood and ducked into the inner office long enough to switch on the answering machine and grab her hat and coat; then she locked up the inner office and headed out the door herself. With as much information as she was asking Jai to track down, she figured making the request in person was probably in order -- and it would probably mean that it would take less time for her to learn whatever she could.
