"Yeah, that's the kind of trouble we don't need." Daws grimaced. "Cole made it sound like we'll have enough on our hands with the mutant guards this 'Doctor G' guy has under his thumb."

Proteus scowled. "That's what bothers me most. I'd like to know these turncoats really aren't being controlled somehow, before they end up getting hurt by whatever happens."

Daws frowned. "Yeah, I'd feel easier about it if we could figure that out, too. But . . . well, it wouldn't exactly be the first time mutants went to work against our own kind without being forced to."

Proteus looked vaguely dissatisfied, but he said nothing more. Major Vance gave a thoughtful shrug.
"I've had Voegel's apartment watched today," he said. "Some cops were in and out briefly--but otherwise, my man reported nobody particularly suspicious hanging around."

Daws nodded. "I guess that's a good sign -- or a sign that they're sneakier than your average government spooks, anyway."

"I just hope we don't run into any trouble tonight," Vance muttered. "The team we're taking isn't really high on defensive mutations. I'd rather handle a fight with powers than guns, but Kindle and I'll be the only ones with range."

"Yeah." Daws frowned and shrugged. "There's not a lot we can do about it, I guess. I'll be armed, and if it comes down to close quarters," She unsheathed her claws and grinned crookedly, "Well, I'm pretty well equipped."

"Most of us are--at close quarters. I like keeping some distance between us and trouble." Vance shrugged. "Hopefully it won't be an issue."
A tap sounded at the door then. Nate glanced out through the peephole, then opened the door to admit Rogar, Flash, and Kindle.
"Sorry to keep you waiting." Roger glanced around at the group in the room. "Hi, all. Evenin', Miz Dawson."

Daws grinned. "Hiya, Rog. Flash, Kindle. How's things?"

"Well, I haven't had to fix anything broken by those Spook kids at my building in a week," Roger drawled good-naturedly.
Proteus glanced up. "I'll see you get repaid for any damages, Mr. Latimore. You've been awfully patient."
Roger waved a hand dismissively. "Ah, skip it. Glad to help out other mutants in need."

Daws grinned crookedly. "You almost sound like the Spook kiddos are growing on you, Rog." She remarked.

Roger smirked. "I could make a crack there, but I won't." He turned to Vance. "So, the same setup you laid out for us earlier?"
"Pretty much. We're just waiting for one of our Mutietown counterparts to show, so he can help us handle the security systems." The Major shrugged laconically. "Otherwise, we don't know anything more than I told you this morning."

A few minutes passed, and there was a light knock on the door. Daws stood and -- after double-checking through the peephole -- opened the door.
Timothy Landon stepped into the room, pushing his white-blonde hair back from his face. The dark clothing he wore made the young man's pale complexion seem even more ghostly than normal. He smiled faintly and nodded in greeting to the individuals in the room that he knew. "Hiya, Daws, Major Vance, Handy. I hope I didn't keep you guys waiting on me."

"No, we've gotta wait a few more minutes for dark anyway." Vance gestured to his other operatives.
"I think you know my son Nate--Specter. Meet Flash, Kindle, and..." He chuckled. "Believe it or not, we never have come up with a codename for Rog. Everybody knows him as the space-case landlord of the Latimore Apartments, anyway."
Roger quirked a grin, but he somehow still managed to make a face at his commander.

Timothy grinned. "Sure, I've seen you around the neighborhood. I'm Timothy -- I never really picked up any kind of nickname, either." He pulled a face. "Not one I'd use, anyway."

"Sometimes it keeps you safer in this line of work," Vance muttered. Then he looked at Timothy with a kinder expression. "I take it Regina explained to you what tonight's job entails."

"Oh, sure." Timothy nodded easily. "You need someone to block the signal from the security systems at this place, right? I can do that easy enough -- as long as the outgoing signal's wireless of some kind, anyway."

"Yeah. We're gonna have to take care of any land lines the old-fashioned way--and just take 'em out." Vance frowned. "Regina, it might not be a bad idea to call Jai, and ask him to take a quick look at phone company records. Just to make sure the creeps didn't have any spare lines put in that are hidden."

"Sure." Daws nodded. "Anything else you want me to have him check out before we go in?"

"We've already got as much as we're going to about the layout, and we know about the cop activity." Vance shrugged. "I can't think of anything else--not that we have time for, anyway."
