Character's Name: Nicholas Tiernan. (This is very likely an assumed name.)
Mutant Nickname: Nocturne
Mutant Powers: A form of telekinesis which affects living cells, enabling him to rupture organs, cause internal bleeding, and otherwise savagely injure and kill people. The ability to create a light-absorbing "darkfield", which can blanket a radius of several hundred feet in darkness--and relative to this, an echolocation ability that helps him to move freely in the dark.
A handful of mutants closest to Tiernan know that he once had batlike wings as well, but an unknown accident or attack long ago reduced them to scarred stumps which are now always concealed.
Occupation: To the public eye, he is the wealthy owner of a "consulting firm". In reality, he is the godfather of a vicious mutant mafia, which funds mutant welfare projects both by catering to human vices, and by committing extortion and other crimes against humans. Through a front company, he also owns the Lusus Naturae bar, which serves as a sort of clearing house for information and personnel.
Gender: Male.
Age: Forty-two.
Height: 5' 8".
Hair Color: Black.
Eye Color: Black. When he generates a darkfield, the irises expand to fill the eyes.
Physical Description: Pale and slight of build, he is not conventionally handsome, but alluring. He always wears a long black cloak to conceal his ruined wings, which cause him to appear somewhat hunchbacked. He dresses expensively, and maintains an extremely refined appearance. This and his supposed "deformity" are both deceptive, for when he chooses to, he can move with unexpected speed and strength.
Country/Hometown: Somewhere in England.
Immediate Family: None known.
Personality: Nick Tiernan is a man utterly without a conscience. He is capable of exuding intense charm, charisma, and sophistication, but at his core he is a cold, ruthless killer with dangerous intelligence and ambition. Highly narcissistic, he sees himself as the Robin Hood of mutants. Toward his subordinates, he affects a languid and almost indifferent demeanor, punctuated only by brief, intense flashes of icy rage that subside as swiftly as they appear--yet which may leave damage and even death in their wake. He generously rewards loyalty, but he will not hesitate to inflict punishment, or to sell out his closest associate for his own benefit.
Weaknesses: Full sunlight and bright colors cause his eyes discomfort; this is one reason why he rarely ventures beyond his office headquarters, especially during the day. He harbors a rage-driven madness beneath his outward intelligence. His greed is boundless. In spite of--or perhaps because of--his flawed appearance, he is also very vain.
Additional Skills: Although many of his crimes are now white-collar, he was formerly a skilled thief. He is a brilliant and almost obsessively detailed planner, and a superb con artist.
Hobbies/Interests: Plays classical piano, and reads avidly. Keeps a garden stocked with a fortune's worth of exotic flowers. Collects large and valuable gemstones (often by thievery). Loves fine food, wines, and generally anything expensive. Has occasional trysts with non-mutant prostitutes--and then murders them.
Personal History: There are conflicting reports about Tiernan's past. He himself claims to have had a mutant-hating stepfather who blamed him for his mother's suicide, and eventually mutilated his wings--after which Tiernan killed him. However, mutant vigilante Jerod Vance asserts that Tiernan was a spoiled rich boy who actively chose a life of theft and murder, and raped his own stepsister as well as killing his stepfather.
What is known is that Tiernan eventually became a thief in London. In time, his mutant powers and his own cunning enabled him to start building a fortune in stolen and swindled money. At length he moved to New York (taking with him his follower George Stubbs), and began to apply his intellect to even more complex and profitable crimes--but his hatred for humanity remained, and began to shape his ambitions. He resolved to do all he could to promote the extinction of normal humans, while at the same time giving aid to the mutant population, in order to build up a support base among them. His dream is to lead a mutant revolution one day, resulting in the subjugation or extermination of ordinary humans... and, of course, a position of power for himself in the consequent mutant-dominated society.
Anything Else:
Not at present.
