Daws shivered faintly and nodded. "Yeah. I hope . . . but yeah. You better do that."
She turned to Proteus. "I'll keep Tiernan busy for as long as I can. If you can figure some way to signal an all-clear on your way out, it'd be helpful -- but if not I'll just drag things out until I can't do so anymore.
"Once you get Vance out of there, take him to my office. I'll meet up with you once I'm done with Tiernan, and take it from there."

Proteus frowned slightly. "Just do what you can. I have an idea my hands will be full enough just getting Vance out."
"You want we should bring Doc Ollivard to your office instead, then?" Sid asked Daws.

Daws shook her head. "I think it's safer to go to your place. I'm just thinkin' that a detour will give me a chance to ditch any pursuers Tiernan might decide to try and send after me once I leave his office. I'm not taking any more chances than I have to -- we've had enough of that for one night."

Miriam pulled away from Alex and squeezed Daws' hands. "Be careful, Daws."
"She won't have anything to worry about--if nobody who could identify her got back to Tiernan's." Proteus' expression clearly indicated that he was still angry about the casualties. He glanced at Daws. "Come on."
