"Oh, I can't blame her. I was a bitter man, Regina. I think she felt sorry for me more than anything--but she couldn't just sit and watch me have a meltdown."
Vance shook his head slightly. "The question is what she feels about our daughter being killed because she did stick with me."

Daws shook her head slightly. "I guess there's no way of knowing without talking to her."
She gestured to the information Vance had given her. "I'll get Jai started on visas and things like that, so he'll have everything ready to go once we track her down."

"Great." Vance nodded. "Ask Rog if you need any help I can't get out and give you. With that apartment block of his invaded by refugee Spooks, he's got his hands as full as any of us--but like I said, he knows Doris."

"Will do." Daws reached for her fedora and stood up. "I'll keep in touch and let you know what's going on."
She rested her hand on Vance's shoulder. "Take care of yourself, Jerod."

Vance reached up and patted Daws' hand with his rough fingers. "I could say the same to you." His lips twitched. "And in between the many things you'll be saying to annoy Cole, you can tell him I said hi."

"I will." Daws grinned and turned to Miriam.
"I know it's asking a lot -- but try and keep him in line for a couple more days, will you?"

Miriam barely managed to keep from rolling her eyes, but she smiled and nodded. "I'll do my best. Maybe you should leave me your gun, just in case."
"I still don't trust you with those things, Doc," Vance retorted--but with a teasing half-smile.

Daws laughed. "Which is precisely why it might be some use getting you to mind your manners." She replied lightly. "If you've got any to mind, that is."
She turned to Henry without waiting for a reply. "Thank you again, Henry."

Henry smiled and patted Daws' shoulder. "Of course. Coming for another visit later?" His expression became humorous as he added, "You can even bring Mister Cole for dinner, if he can ever pry himself away from his adoring public."

Daws chuckled. "Yeah, I'll be back soon enough. As for Cole -- somethin' tells me he's got his dinners booked clear through to the end of next year. But maybe he can pencil us in."
She nudged Henry's shoulder with a grin. "Anyway - -good luck with these two, huh?"

"I'll manage," Henry replied with a smile. In truth, he was plainly quite happy to have time with Miriam sans Alex--even if it meant having an irascible military man under his roof as well.

Having said her goodbyes, Daws left Henry's and headed for her office. Withdrawing the notebook from her pocket and studying it as she walked, she wondered briefly what Vance's ex-wife would be like -- and how she would react to news of the Major's faked death . . .
Well, She shrugged and once again pocketed the notebook, At least it shouldn't be too hard to find her. Once we do . . . I guess we'll just see.
