Daws nodded. "We'll be there."
Padre cleared his throat. "And we'll be ready for what comes." He crossed his arms and chuckled. "You'll see just what this 'Sunday School' is capable of, Boyo."

"I hope so," Vance replied, and he meant it. "We need all the opposition to Tiernan we can get."

"Now there's somethin' we can all agree on." Daws nodded. She glanced at the assembled group.
"If we've about concluded this little meeting, I'm gonna head back to the office. I wanna show the kid around -- it'd be a canon-class miracle if he managed to figure out my filing system on his own." She settled her fedora more firmly on her head, and nodded in farewell.
"You take care of yourselves -- you too, Major."

"Same to you, detective." Vance's eyes narrowed slightly. "You won't listen, but I'll say it anyway. Watch yourself with the kid."

Daws raised an eyebrow. "There's this thing people do called trustin' each other, Major. You maybe ought to try it one of these times."
She nodded again and slipped out of the church.

Sid shrugged and glanced at the Padre. "Like the Major says, we're gettin' in some more shooting practice 'tween now and Tuesday night. We'd be glad to have ya if ya want. But not you," he growled to Vance, who had begun to open his mouth.
The Grenadier closed his mouth and chuckled. "Okay, Rosenstein, have it your way. You know who to call if you change your mind. Now, if you'll excuse me, I gotta get some more logistics lined up for the big blowout."
With that, Vance sauntered away.

Padre sighed and cast his eyes heavenward. Well, Lord, that went well enough. Thanks for small favors.
He glanced at Sid. "I'll pass on the shooting practice, Sid -- I've kept it up since I left the Corps, and I'll have my hands full with Church business over this weekend." Shaking his head, the priest added wryly "Not to mention with putting in some extra prayers for our safety.
"So just take care of yourselves -- and I'll see you all on Tuesday night."
