Jai's forays into the computers at White Hill Hospital went smoothly and without incident -- a fact in which the slender hacker took a quiet but obvious pride -- and Daws' visit to Jackson Heights ended up taking less time than anticipated as a result. There was still an hour or so to go before sunset when she made her way back towards Langston's modest house, figuring that it was the most likely place to find Vance and Proteus at that hour.
She carried a slim folder of computer printouts under her arm as she climbed the steps of the small house and knocked on the door. Contained within was all the information Jai had been able to glean about their potential target and the hospital where he was being treated.
Here's hoping it'll be enough to be of use. She thought, as she slipped off her fedora.

It was Handy who answered Daws' knock, and he grinned at the detective as he let her in. "Hiya, Daws."
In the living room, Langston, Nate, and the two human guests were picking over a pile of junk food and watching TV. Vance was on his feet, however, and he looked restless.

"Evening, everyone." Daws waved vaguely at the four seated figures with her fedora and raised an eyebrow at Vance. "Any new developments here?"

" 'Lo, Regina... No, nothing new here. I've just got my people on standby, waiting for news." Vance shrugged. "Proteus was here this morning, but he went off wherever he goes for the day--he wanted to be rested up if he's needed. Said he'd be back before sunset, so he oughta be along any time now. Sid, too."

Daws nodded. "Well, I think Jai's got us some good stuff to work off of." She said, indicating the folder. "It's not perfect, but it ought to be useful."

"Great. We can go over it when they get..." He paused as another knock came at the door. Nate went to answer it, and with a grin, he let Sid into the house.
"Hiya, folks." Sid had not been entirely his effusive self while Miriam remained in a coma, but he gave the group a thin smile, glancing particularly at Beaudry and Steph. "I don't think we've met. Sid Rosenstein--an' you must be the folks got the short end when we started messin' with that clinic."

Beaudry grinned crookedly and nodded. "Yeah, I guess that's us. I'm Quentin Beaudry, and this's Steph Connors."

Sid shook hands with both of his fellow non-mutants. "Glad ta meet ya--an' if I can do anythin' for ya, lemme know. I ain't exactly in the Hollywood set, but... ya know. I run a club, so I got a few connections, anyway."

Steph smiled warmly. "It's really nice of you to offer. Thank you."

"How's Doc Van Linden doing today?" Vance asked.
Sid managed a thin smile. "Well... we're hopin'. Ya know I don't get halfa what Caddy says--but he said she's showin' some more good signs."

"I'm glad to hear that." Daws said. "She can't recover too quick to suit me."

"An' I can't get Foxy back on the stage quick enough ta suit me," Sid remarked. "The customers are gettin' impatient. I've told everybody he's doin' a show out in L.A. for a coupla weeks, as a favor fer an old pal. That won't hold water much longer."

Daws nodded. "He needs to at least try and get back to normal. Of course, that's easier said than done."

Sid shrugged morosely. "Trust me, he ain't movin' till Miriam wakes up. He's blamin' himself fer lettin' her go--much less not bein' there himself ta try ta protect her. I've tried tellin' him all the reasons again, but ya can guess how that goes."
"Well, he can rest assured that when the Doc does wake up, I'm not letting that happen again. If we can avoid it, I don't care to expose her to that power of hers anymore..." Vance grimaced. "Or the rest of us, either. Just in case."
That prompted a baleful glower from Sid.

Daws held up one hand. "I think we can all agree that it's better all around if both of them stay out of things like that from now on." She said. "Convincing them is gonna be a different story altogether, of course -- but there's no sense putting too much energy into that until Miriam's back with us."

"It'll be soon," Sid murmured. "...It's gotta be."
There was a tap at the door then, and Vance went to answer it himself. After a quick glance outside, he opened the door to admit Proteus.
"I hope I'm not late." The shapeshifter looked around keenly. "Everyone doing alright?"
"We're okay. Yourself?"
"Fine." Proteus grinned crookedly. "My head's healed completely, and I'm rested up. I'm good for about three days now, if there's any reason I'd have to keep up for that long." He raised a hand. "Not that I want to be awake for three days--just so we're clear on that."
Vance half-chuckled. "I hear that. With any luck, we can do our next job quick and quiet." He turned to Daws. "But Regina has the details for us."

Daws nodded and shot a brief glance at Steph and Beaudry. "Hey, Langston, you mind us using your kitchen for this little war council?"
Langston waved one hand vaguely towards the kitchen. "Go right ahead, make yourselves at home."

With a shrug, Vance gestured for Nate, Handy, Sid, and Proteus to go into the kitchen, then followed them himself. He leaned against the counter while the others sat down at the kitchen table.
"Okay, Regina. What have the boys dug up for us?"

Daws shrugged and tossed her fedora onto the tabletop, followed by the folder she had been carrying tucked under one arm. "Well," She said, "For starters, we've got the basic layout of the hospital and a nurses' rotation schedule. According to the duty roster, they're going to be moving our guy from ICU to a regular room sometime between eight and ten-thirty tonight."

"Bigger window than I'd hoped, but that's typical hospital punctuality for ya." Vance frowned as he lit a cigar. "My boys can be ready then. In fact, they're ready now--just waiting to find out how many of 'em need to go where."
Proteus leaned forward. "Have you got anything on any particular doctor I can fake? ...Or a nurse, if I have to. Anybody familiar enough not to rate a second glance."
